About the studio

About.

ilouva is a small design studio for printed objects that are beautiful enough to leave out and functional enough to use every day.

The work focuses on objects that will be used and loved: little tools, trays, holders, and everyday companions that feel considered rather than technical.

The name #

Ilo is Finnish for joy. ilouva takes its name from it. It’s a small, private nod to what the studio is actually about: opening up a bit of joy, one object at a time.

The practice #

Every piece is held to the same quiet standard: beautiful enough to leave out, useful enough to be reached for often, and delightful in some small, unexpected way. Curves over brackets, warmth over hardware.

The objects are designed here and printed at home. We ship files, not packages. No warehouse, no cargo ship, no waste. Just a design, sent to wherever it’s needed, made real on someone’s own printer.

Who’s behind it #

The studio is run by one person, quietly, alongside everything else in her life, investing a couple of hours a week, most weeks. I’d rather the objects speak for me, so this is a studio without a face or a name attached, and that’s on purpose.

This journal is a record of the work as it develops, containing sketches, design notes, material experiments, and the first-print-friendly lessons that make a useful object possible. It starts small on purpose: the plan is to keep building this, quietly and steadily, for years rather than weeks.
